Shitty ending was shitty and generic. They have a lot of balls to make a story that is so heavy on impossible physics and ridiculous plans, only to have an ending people predicted from the start of the first episode of the first season. Where the fuck was the plot twist Taniguchi, talk about a waste of two seasons of anime.
But yeah, that ambiguous death pisses me right the fuck off too. There's enough proof backing both sides, that he could be dead or alive.
On the alive side:
- The cart driver got a close up, on top of having his face totally covered. There's no reason for so much secrecy of the driver if he wasn't someone of some importance.
- C.C. is talking to Lelouch at the end, and looks up.
- Nunally had Lelouch's memories transferred over to her when she touched him, just like when Lelouch touched C.C. in R1.
- Perhaps he got Charles' Code when he dies. With this, it could explain why he has the immortality of the Code, along with the Geass from C.C., which would imply Lelouch was the first creature to achieve both, or "Code Geass."
- Nunally seems rather content to be around Zero at the end, despite the fact that she watched him stab her brother in the fucking gut and kill him. One would think she knows he's alive.
On the dead side:
- He had the ever apparent "eyeshadow" death throes bullshit that all characters that die for real in CG had. Euphy and Diethard had the same look, and we all know their fate.
- The argument that C.C. looks up while talking to Lelouch can also be applied to him being dead. After all, it's no rare event in anime for a character to look up to the sky when talking to someone who is dead.
- Getting both a Code and a Geass is highly suspect, as we know you cannot have both. Then again, no one has ever been given a chance for both.
- You'd think that Suzaku would be clued in on his immortality, but there he is when he stabs Lelouch, bawwwing his fucking eyes out. Would be a dick move for Lelouch not to tell his only friend that "o lol, im not actually dieing", and having him carry that weight for the rest of his life.
So basically, there's no fucking answer, Sunrise trolled everyone in expert fashion. We're left with an ending that didn't clue us in on C.C.'s name, something they promised since R1, fucking Judas Ougi living and knocking up the nigress, and peace only lasting until Nunenemy, Godzaku, and Schnitzel die, then everything will go to hell. To be totally honest, I don't even think Sunrise knows if Lelouch is alive or not, it's that fucking bad. The reason they made such an ambiguous ending is because they can see how fans feel, and if they can make a third season/movie/spinoff/whatthefuckever, they will say the cart driver is Lelouch. If there is no profit to be had though, they will say he died.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go rage on /a/ like everyone else.
