'Nother Sprite Request

Under a Spoiler cause it's kinda big.

Anyway, I've always LOVED the art for this card (originally on the GameBoy Color game based on the Pokemon TCG), and I tried to turn it into a sprite the other day (using different art off of Photobucket as reference), and it REALLY didn't come out very well... I can't do it myself. Can anyone else make this look good? 80x80 would be good for the size, and .GIF or .PNG format would be most preferable.

I also lack photoshop as well as the faintest idea on how to use it.

It's not hard to use Photoshop... In fact, the only tools I use for spriting are Pencil, Eraser (Pencil Mode) and... Well, that's it, actually....

Except for the Raichu. On that one, I used the Dodge and Burn tools on the original picture... Granbull was from scratch, so that was all just... Pencil and Eraser. XD;

I hate opening such a massive program when all I need to do is sprite, I usually just use Paint.

O.O do you people do this free hand? because if so thats amazing...

The Granbull was free-handed, no picture to work off of besides the original sprite for color reference. No pose reference besides memory, though...

Raichu had lots of reference. Like, every two seconds, I was checking the original picture. XD;

WOW... do you use graphing at all? or is it just you a mouse and a white screen? I could never do sprites XD
