    Discussion: Bans Empty Discussion: Bans

Post by Ninja Sun May 03, 2009 10:14 pm

Well, I've received a list of some UU pokemon are perhaps a bit too powerful, so I decided to open up a discussion pertaining to the banning of the following:

    • Registeel

Registeel is "ridiculously bulky and has a lot of resistances." It can also run T-wave or Toxic to add to the opponent's misery and has respectable offense.

There is also a bit of contention with Chansey in that it is just a lesser Blissey, but I haven't heard that many complaints about Chansey.

    Discuss, plz.

I am under the impression that the person who compiled this list was Shine.

I should play more new UU so I can see if these are actually legitimate threats.

It's not banned yet, this is an open discussion to see whether or not it, along with other pokemon, is worth banning.

And actually, Shine is not the only person that I've heard complaints from. =P

No offense to you and the complainants, but a lot of these arguments are rather weak.

"Mesprit, like Clefable, has many options open to it and apparently can run several different sets quite effectively."

I mean, that one doesn't even make sense. Just because a Pokemon has a lot of options doesn't mean we should ban it. Look at Salamence and Gengar XD.

Salamence and Gengar have stats appropriate for their tier.

    Mesprit is 80/105/105/105/105/80.

I agree: Mesprit and it's too siblings should be OU.

I myself have used Honchkrow and Registeel in OU to great lulz and death.

The rest are UU. Nuff said.

The two I use...not sure. I still think they should be UU, but I did use them well....meh, I say we keep Honchkrow just to piss off Shine.

    *Waits for more feedback*

I could see Magmortar being a bit of a threat with choice scarf, but scarf also leaves it open to be countered immidiately...

I haven't heard many complaints about Honchkrow and I don't quite believe that Mesprit is entirely too strong for UU, so for the moment they are out of contention for ban. If I get more information on how they are unsuitable for UU or receive more complaints then I might put them back.

Magmortar, Registeel, Shaymin and Umbreon are still in discussion.

I'll be doing more UU testing on Shoddy when I can, so I'll see if I can gather more information.

Magmortar doesn't deserve to even be considered for banning, honestly. It's not hard at all to counter/revenge kill/set up on/whatever. Being Stealth Rock weak hurts it further. I don't know, I just don't find it too amazing.

By the way, we don't need to discuss Umbreon. It should be banned since it's OU now Wink.

Shaymin is no longer UU so we don't have to discuss it anymore.

    Registeel is still up, though.

    It's not broken, keep it.

If people are haivng issues with it, slap a Band on a Hitmonlee and Close Combat it in the face.

It's slow, and it has to choose between good defences, or moderate offences, it can't keep both.

I do have to disagree. It has great defenses, and it really doesn't need any help in that department. Just train it in attack, or sp. atk and speed and it could pose a threat. However, I don't want to argue too much into this because I have a Registeel that I use occassionally.

Registeel is far too slow to pose any real threat...its max speed is only 218, for god's sake, and that's with a positive nature, a 31 IV and 252 speed EVs. Which is totally useless. It's not terribly strong either; max for both attacks is only 273, which really can't do too much damage.

Really, you just need to wear it down. The only recovery move it gets is Rest, and unless they're using the Curse or RestTalk set (which is unlikely) you're not going to see it.

Registeel is kind of like Jirachi in OU...it's very good, but not good enough to warrant a ban. Just play around it and you'll do fine.
