I'll state right now that, while there's no nudity in this movie (besides a few rumps), it IS sorta graphic at points, and probably not something you'd wanna watch in a family setting- more likely alone or with open-minded friends.
I love this movie. I finished watching it for the first time, and I'm so incredibly satisfied. It's almost legendary (to me and a large cult following which rivals that of Rocky Horror Picture Show).
If you don't like musicals, sucks for you, cause, it's a Rock Musical, and it's friggin' awesome. One of the greatest things to me is how most anyone can relate to Hedwig on some level (not in the sense that you're a transexual who suffered through a botched sex reassignment operation). I won't say there's any kind of deep symbolism, but Hedwig is comparable to (dare I say it?) Anonymous in the sense that Hedwig embodies a sense, emotion, or stage in life that we ALL go through, just as Anon embodies anyone with a voice and an opinion.
If anything, it's funny, too, and very well-made, with wonderful dialogue. I can pretty much guarantee that you will laugh at some point, and maybe even cry a little, or choke up some at least. But mostly, you'll laugh, and be like, "Hah, this is awesome."
I'll note again (with a different choice of words) that Hedwig is NOT for everyone. Some will really enjoy it, but most probably won't. I consider it to currently be my favorite movie, personally, so yeah. I'm happy.
Also, tons of genderbending if you find that funny. There are girls played by guys and vice versa, but DAMN, they really pull it off.
