I played someone on Shoddy (Smogon server, of course) called Dr Evil. He asked for an NFE match on main chat, and I answered, because I'm FUCKING LOCO (not really).

Anyway, so we start the match, and what do I see? Gliscor, or at least it's previous form, Gligar. But it really didn't matter, because it did the exact same thing.
After that, what comes next? DragoniteDragonair.

Proceeding after was WeavileSneasel, and I never got to see the other three.

I assumed that we were going to do something fun and different, but no. As it turns out, NFE is just OU, but with smaller numbers.

When I think of NFE, I think of, say, Venonat, Shellgon, or Porygon2- Pokemon with distinct quirks that separate themselves from their evolved forms. But everything was the same as OU, and it disgusted me. Know what comes to mind when I think of Dr Evil and our encounter? Se7en.

"On the subway today, a man came up to me to start a conversation. He made small talk, a lonely man talking about the weather and other things. I tried to be pleasant and accommodating, but my head hurt from his banality. I almost didn't notice it had happened, but I suddenly threw up all over him. He was not pleased, and I couldn't stop laughing."

I fucking love John Doe, and Se7en has to be one of the greatest movies of all time.

I've actually been constructing an NFE tier, deciding which Pokes should be b&.

Never seen Se7en, by the way :\

    Sine, NFE is OU lite.

The distinction thing is only to decide if they're of competitive metagame value.

NFE isn't an actual metagame so that's no surprise. How do you think Little Cup was when it first began? You'd see people using Pokemon like Happiny and Gible all the time because they were pre-evolutions of top-tier OU Pokemon.

NFE has the potential to be a viable metagame but there's not much interest (like BL). Even if there was interest, it would take time for it to mold into something other than OU Lite. As you might recall, people often complained about the original UU metagame as being OU Lite itself.

An NFE metagame would also probably end up with a ban list to balance things out, which hasn't been created yet because no one really plays it (kinda like how Sneasel and Scyther dominated Little Cup before an Ubers LC list was made).

Also, you mentioned Dragonair. That to me actually shows that it's not "OU Lite", because I never see Dragonite in OU AND Dragonair is of different typing. Interesting.

The actual plan is to simply tier NFEs according to the standard tiers...UU, BL, and OU (NU eventually, I suppose). This means that a bunch of them would be UU but a small group would end up BL (Chansey, Kadabra, and Haunter are some obvious ones). That means no NFE metagame, but at least you'd be able to use them in standard play. The reason this plan hasn't been put into action is because of the UU fanatics who want to keep it exactly the way it is (which is why we don't have BLs on the UU ladder yet >_> ).

As a follow up rant, I'd like to mention that Shed Skin is glitched on Shoddy. Shed Skin is supposed to grant a 1/3 chance to get rid of status effects at the end of each turn, but on Shoddy, Shed Skin activates at the end of every turn that the Pokemon has a status effect.

I couldn't Burn or Poison that damn Dragonair worth shit.

    Could just be superhax.

Also, D: I could see Haunter ending up in UU.
