That's actually not the way it works. According to this: http://pokewifi.heavenforum.org/rules-f21/profile-pokemon-information-t448.htm Mudkip's regular attack does 3 damage. You add that to the die roll.
So 3+6=9 which doesn't catch Venonat, sorry =/. You would have needed a lower roll.
