BL/UU Merger Aftermath Empty BL/UU Merger Aftermath

Post by Shine Thu Feb 19, 2009 6:35 pm

Starting a thread in the UU Dojo to take note of and discuss various trends, complaints, or ideas about the BL/UU merger.

I'll start off by saying that I've noticed Froslass becoming EXTREMELY popular again, but rather than sweeping, it more often sets up Spikes as a lead.

Since Abomasnow's legal, Hail teams are really common, so Rock Slide might be a better choice than Stone Edge until that calms down- Snow Cloak hax is bad enough on its own. Because of this, Stealth Rock is a must, especially since Charizard and Moltres are both legal now, and cover the standard Hail team weaknesses pretty well.

Swords Dance Gallade is relatively common now, though I'd personally prefer to bulk out its Sp.Def some, and run Bulk Up instead, with Drain Punch over Close Combat.

I've seen two different people lead off with a SubPoint Tauros.

Pretty much every Rain Dance team leads with Crobat (though I've seen one with Kangaskahn), and always packs Kabutops.

Electrode's a very powerful contender, being the fastest Pokemon in the tier, and being able to not only Taunt and set up Rain Dance, as is the standard lead, but to T-Wave, pseudo BoltBeam with STAB'd T-Bolt and HP Ice, and revenge kill well. It's worth keeping alive a lot of the time.

Altaria, being Dragon-Flying, has a nice combination of resistances that make it pretty bulky, if you ask me. I'd recommend looking into it.

    Toxicroak's pretty common.

Banded and Scarfed Staraptor is common, and DEVASTATING for the unprepared team- if you have a physical wall that can resist Brave Bird and Return, I recommend using it. Regirock and Steelix are good choices, but watch out for Close Combat.

Besides trends, there are a few Pokemon I personally feel don't really belong in UU, those being Arcanine, Crobat, Magmortar, Milotic, Mismagius, Moltres, Roserade, Slowbro, Slowking, Spiritomb, Staraptor, and Uxie.

Arcanine, Crobat, Moltres, and Roserade I can deal with just fine, but all of them are somewhat difficult to take care of sometimes.

Post by Ninja Fri Feb 20, 2009 12:20 am

I've seen a bunch of Calm Mind-Sub Mismagius lately...they're pretty annoying, too. -_-

Yeah, I can personally definitely agree that Uxie is a bit broken for the tier. Yawn+Calm Mind combo is pretty reliable, and once I get a few Calm Minds in, a 3-4 pokemon sweep isn't uncommon–sometimes I've even 6-0'd with my lead Uxie.

I've found Arcanine a bit annoying, but it isn't something intolerable. The only reason I found one super annoying was because I let an SD get passed to it and found myself without a Hazer/Phazer. Lamesauce.

I haven't encountered any Slowking or Spiritomb yet, myself, but I have seen a lot of Slowbro (usually Calm Mind) and Roserade (usually the Leech Seed-Spikes setting up kind).

Haven't seen any Moltres yet either....

Tauros leads.....I've seen a couple of 'em. Not anything particularly difficult for Uxie to take care of.

Contrary to what Shine said, I've actually encountered only Bulk Up Gallade....

I've seen a couple of people running Leafeon and Espeon....bring some phazers.

    Smogon ruined UU.

Gallade does NOT belong there. Neither does Staraptor. They should be banned immediately for simply being too strong.

Also, no NFE's and no Abomasnow, so we can keep out all the fags leading with Hippopotas and using Chansey because the pussies can't live without their precious auto-weather.

    Wait, what?

You are aware that this is all TESTING, right? If you want a say in what's banned, I suggest you actually join Smogon. Complaining that they screwed up when you aren't doing ANYTHING about it seems kinda weird.

They're pretty much doing what we did to start NU. Only NU ended up being a bit more balanced from the offset.

Smogon only did this merge because people wouldn't shut up with skewed theorymon about why to keep things out of UU, so they were like "Screw it, all at once testing."

I'm pretty sure they won't keep certain things, but you'll have to bear with it.

If you don't like it, do what Sami said, or just don't UU until the testing is over.

I actually haven't played the new UU yet. Been too lazy. I might try Kadabra, though.

    Gallade doesn't belong in UU.

Also, if you run Hail, bring a spinner. Stealth Rock is everywhere.

Who are you talking about, Gallade or Slowking? Because Slowking's slowness is in his name, with a base speed of 30, and he was the one I was going to use on my TR team. Also, there's the fact that I've used Slowking on a TR team, and he was one of the best Pokemon on the team along with my beastly MinSpd Garde.

Also, I've decided to kick Shine from the C-box every time he complains about new UU, partially because it's funny but also because it's really, really annoying when he does it.

You know, Shine, had you bothered to participate in the actual testing and Smogon forum discussions, you'd know that some of the Pokemon you mention are current suspects being tested...

Sorry, I'm just one of those people where if I don't like something, I go straight to the source to see what I can do about it. After all, complaining won't solve anything, just play more matches, theorymon up some counters, play on test servers, and join debates! =)

Hmmm, I've been seeing a rise in Steelix usage lately. Annoying -_-

Typhlosion also seems somewhat popular, usually Eruption sets.

The allowance of Yanma into UU pretty much lets it be its own mini Yanmega, and I've seen quite a few. Lame.

They're on the list. If they're on the list, they're legal, and I don't see any official ruling posted by a site admin saying that we CAN'T use them.

Every Typhlosion I've seen was an Eruption build, and Yanma's more interesting than a mini Yanmega with a little imagination.

Ninja is site staff, so if he makes an announcement, consider it official. It was discussed among the rest of the staff.

The official Smogon tiering isn't going to be done until April (as they do it every three months), and so that will probably be when we update our own tier list. Feel free to have "New UU" matches, but for now, they will not count for dojo challenges.
